Cradle of Spiritual Democracy
Anubhava Mantapa, located in Basavakalyana, is considered the first spiritual parliament of India. It was established by the 12th-century philosopher and social reformer Basavanna. The space welcomed thinkers, poets, saints, and reformers from all walks of life. They discussed religion, morality, equality, and the nature of the divine.
A Place of Progressive Thought
This sacred hall played a pivotal role in shaping the Lingayat faith and social values in Karnataka. It promoted ideas of social justice, gender equality, and inner devotion. Today, it stands as a symbol of Karnataka’s intellectual heritage.
Legacy That Inspires
Though the original structure no longer exists, the site has a modern monument that commemorates its historical importance. Pilgrims and visitors come to reflect on the inclusive, philosophical spirit that once thrived here. It is especially meaningful for followers of Basavanna and students of Indian philosophy.
