Uttara Kannada District is one of the largest districts in Karnataka with abundant natural resources and varied geographical features. It is surrounded by Belagavi and Goa State to the North, Dharward in the East, Shivamogga and Udupi in the South. Kannada & Konkani are the 2 major regional languages spoken here. With a total land area of 10.25 lakh hectares, 8.28 hectares is under forest land.
It has thick evergreen forest, perennial rivers, home to some of India’s finest beaches, adventure destinations and waterfalls, all of this with abundant flora and fauna. It has a long coastline of about 140 km in length with a port at Karwar which is developed as an all-weather port.
Karwar is the district headquarters of Uttara Kannada District. Surrounded by 5 islands and with beautiful beaches, this port town of Karwar is located on the Kali River. Karwar has all the characteristics of a perfect seaside holiday destination. With gentle silver waves and miles of golden sand, Karwar has captivating landscapes, ringed hill ranges and valleys and forests.
