Overview
Yana Caves are one of the most spectacular geological formations in Karnataka, nestled deep in the lush greenery of the Sahyadri Hills near Kumta. Dominated by two colossal limestone outcrops—Bhairaveshwara Shikhara and Mohini Shikhara—these black karst structures soar dramatically into the sky, forming a surreal and almost mythical landscape.
What to Expect
A short forest trek of about 2 km leads visitors through thick canopies, bamboo groves, and rich biodiversity to reach the caves. The trek is part of the appeal—quiet, green, and dotted with butterflies and bird calls. The larger cave enshrines a naturally formed Shiva Linga, attracting pilgrims and spiritual seekers, especially during the Shivaratri festival.
Why Visit
Yana Caves combine natural grandeur with spiritual significance. Whether you’re an adventurer drawn to volcanic formations, a hiker looking for an offbeat trail, or a pilgrim seeking divine silence, Yana delivers a unique, serene experience.
